Oct. 28 Harvest Festival

Dear Gray’s Woods Families,

October is quickly approaching and we are looking forward to our annual Harvest Festival on Friday, October 28th, which will include class celebrations as well as an all-school parade.

Costumes: Costumes are always optional. Children who choose to bring costumes to school will be given a brief amount of time to change shortly before class celebrations begin. When planning your child’s costume, please be sure they are age and weather appropriate. Also, please remember our district weapons policy - weapons of any kind, even replicas, are not permitted. For safety and identification purposes, we also ask that students and adult guests not wear masks of any kind.

Class Celebrations: Brief class celebrations will take place before the parade on the afternoon of Oct. 28th. Please watch for notification from your child’s teacher regarding times and need for volunteers. If you plan to volunteer in the classroom during this time, please be sure you have completed the volunteer requirements found on the GW website: http://www.scasd.org/Page/18801.

All-School Parade: Weather permitting, the parade will take place outdoors. Classes will meet in the All-Purpose Room at 1:50 pm. Classes will exit the building at the parent pick-up side door, follow the sidewalk up and around the soccer field and re-enter the building through the primary recess door then return to their classrooms. Spectators should plan to watch the parade from the perimeter of the soccer field, not indoors. In the case of inclement weather, the parade will take place in the APR with classes parading in and out of classrooms, around the perimeter of the APR and back to their classrooms. In this case, spectators should plan to watch from the center of the APR only – please not in hallways or classrooms.

Student Sign-out Procedure: Students will return to their classrooms following the parade in order to prepare for dismissal. If you wish to sign out your child before our regular dismissal time, please be sure to sign the sign out sheet in your child’s classroom. If your child will have alternative transportation plans home that day, please send a note or call the office before 2 pm.

Opt Out Procedure: Finally, participation in the Harvest Festival is not mandatory. If you prefer that your child not participate in these activities, please notify your child’s teacher, as alternative activities will be available during this time.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns. We look forward to this special fall event and truly appreciate your cooperation and support!

Thank you,

Kristen Dewitt
